![]() | You kept us all from staying with what we'd got Not that much, but to us it was a lot. Blood and bullets, bare hands and battered blades One chance left for you to be unmade In my hands, I hold the sharpened key Life or pride, what's it gonna be? Leave the world, as a man who never was But a monster, clutching desperately to his claws My last fight Is real in my hands this time The jaws of the devil's mouth are wide And there's one tiny jewel of hope inside Give him one last chance, and if he backs out I'll cut it right out of his roaring mouth Medicine giving me all I need In a burst of colour and a burning bleed And we both wanted to accomplish what we must Falling down in the dust, it's the last of us. A circus mirror, what I could have been Is a thankful avoidance, but a messy scene I'm up to my elbows in scarlet prose It's a story of freedom; you were right, I suppose |
⊗ TIM WRIGHT ⊗ |
You'll care only about the darkness and you'll watch it for hours, for days, maybe even for years, trying in vain to believe you're some kind of indispensable, universe-appointed sentinel, as if just by looking you could actually keep it all at bay. |
Two months after Entry #87 was uploaded to the Marble Hornets YouTube channel, Tim was content to live the rest of his days in silence and solace. - or at least, capable of accepting his role in the dissolution of everything he knew, and willing to never stir that monster's nest again. He still had nightmares, he still lived in fear of what he might inflict on others, still remembered what it felt like to have the deaths of two men, two friends on his hands - but he lived. Barely, he lived. But Wonderland saw fit to uproot him and drop in the middle of another world entirely - one of magic and mirrors, of monsters and video screens, queens and twins and strange, white-out dreams. At first, Tim was content to simply fall into line, and accept whatever this new world would throw at him. The more time he spends in Wonderland, the harder it is to want to leave; at least here, the threat of the shadowy, faceless thing looming across the back of his head is somewhat contained. Grieving murderer, resident arsonist, reluctant secret-keeper, perpetual amnesiac, and compulsive liar, Tim Wright is a man so entrenched in his own layers of self-deception and self-loathing that he makes it almost impossible to see his way out of the problems he himself creates. Above all, he never meant to get attached to anybody. Or maybe he's still lying to himself about that one. |

Are you dangerous?
With your measure of proof
Thoughts are slivers of gold
Abscond with the truth
How does it feel
To be your own deceiver?
Signals raised
Then lost to the aether
We're rest assured
The dead are true believers
Rest assured
We are all believers
How am I supposed to run?
Now, am I supposed to run?
Are you dangerous?
Carved right into my bed
Quick lobotomy
Then left me for dead
How am I supposed to see?
Don't know the melodies
But all the void behind my teeth
Maybe one day he'll be able to claw it out. Until then, he just has to keeps it muzzled and sedated in its chemical cage, and hope that will be enough.

There’s no light in your face,
Usually there’s a trace,
Of deep thought, fear set free,
But now you’re just empty,
There’s no light in your eyes,
Since you fell from the sky,
How can I carry on
With this life that you brought me back from?
There is blood to my despair,
Lifeless fingers, cold stare,
You and I were a pair,
Running solo again,
I have grasped onto life,
I’m not going back this time,
Why didn’t you tell me,
And why did you die?
You left the clues, you signed yourself in red upon the floor
I chased it up, not fast enough, now what the hell am I fighting for?
Being held back from you,
A different dimension, too,
Play it back, but the truth
Is that you’ll never really move again.
Isolation means I’ve started to freeze,
I stand, a solitary figure with the keys,
To cars, computers, and denial, but not the resolution I require
But you left, and I feel like I betrayed you.
And I’ll never get a chance to save you.
A reluctant alliance largely formed out of necessity eased the turbulent beginnings to Jay and Tim's relationship - namely, the fact that Jay uploaded Tim's medical records online, leading Tim to chew him out and loudly refuse to help him in his investigation - and gradually, the two would learn to watch each other's backs. As poorly equipped as Jay was to handle this kind of paranormal expedition, it would soon become apparent that it wasn't just that Jay felt like he owed Alex to find his coveted answers and finish his story; he simply didn't have anything else to do with his life. The effects of that commitment began to take their toll on Jay's mental health until his paranoia and frustration spiraled, leading him to lash out at his only remaining ally. No matter what help Tim tried to press upon him, Jay refused it, and it left him ziptied on the floor of Tim's house.
And later, getting shot through the gut by Alex's hand.
Now he's back in Wonderland, and he's every inch the poorly-adjusted, frustratingly inept cameraman that Tim remembers. He still pursues leads and he still downward spirals and succumbs to his own paranoia, and he's yet to learn the true breadth of what Tim knows - of what Tim learned after Jay's death.
If Tim has it his way, it's going to stay like that for as long as they're both here.
Jay's been through enough.

You’ve got your youth and your intuition
You’ve got a purposeful stride
Armed better than those who came before you
More than just an instinct to survive.
There were always clues, but you played completely clueless
Understood why no-one let you in
Twisting the handle to the path of the unforgiven
And destroying everything
Because Jessica’s got guts and she’s going to get truth out
It won’t be her if something’s got to give
Take the memories and sentiment to fuel you
It’s instinctive that you’re going to live.
Locke the door behind you, more efficient that way
Sorted in a year instead of five
Maths and tactics and logic is on your side
More than just an instinct to survive.
Because Jessica’s not curious, she definitely wants results
And it won’t be her if something’s got to give
Take the memories and sentiment to fuel you
It’s instinctive that you’re going to live.
It's more than a little peculiar that things ended up the way they did: with a tenuous friendship and a moderate brand of trust to match. Upon encountering Tim's masked counterpart, Georgia proved herself a startling ally by electing not to report its existence to Wonderland at large. And upon Jay's arrival, she more or less took him under her wing to ensure he wouldn't be driving blindly into dangers the way he did back home.
He's not sure he trusts her with everything, but he trusts her with Jay's life. And that's more than anyone else in his life has ever gotten.

You don’t want your stitches sewn
‘Cause then you’ll have the big unknown
You don’t want the cancer healed
You have no answer to “how do you feel”
You don’t want your messes cleaned
You don’t want your bodies fixed
You don’t want your problems solved
You’ll have nothing left but a big abyss

Singing so they hear

If I told you how this story end
Would you change a step you take?
And if I could relive all of my days
I'd live them all the same
'Cause I'm scared, of all that I don't know
'Cause I want it all but all of it ain't gold
And I'm scared, but I know it's not for long
'Cause I'm learning what I should've long before
That all we are
Is a light into the darkness
And all we are
Is time that's counting down
And all we are
Is falling through the spaces in between
Endless flight
A lifetime in repeat
But I still find solace when you say
That you know how I feel
When it's wrong
And it ain't been right for years
Let go, give these ghosts a new home
Let's bury our past and our fears and all these bones
Let's go, I should've seen it long before
'Cause this is my life
I will not run in circles
Ending where I start
As tumultuous as his relationship with Max was to start with, they seem to have eased into something approaching a mutual understanding. Her initial fury with him regarding the footage she'd glimpsed from Entry #67 has died down to the point where they can now have an awkward if erratic smoke on the roof. Still, the fact that an alternate version of her admitted to being capable of effecting time travel means he's not inclined to trust her just yet.

Used to come up for air
Through a sea of other people
Just hoping they don't notice
That you
Are leaving again
You're leaving again
And I can't believe it's true
There are people like you
With the same hearts
And the same marks
On our bodies
Did everything feel beautiful when you let go
Of the idea of being anything at all
And you can't believe it's true
There are people like you
When I held you
In my bathroom
I felt new
to help those she recognizes as people who need it, she'll in the same breath deny that she'd be among them. He recognizes that, and he recognizes the need for an outside opinion to level her when things get bad again.
By association with Alex and based on her own cruel luck, Shepard knows a lot more about the faceless specter that's plagued Tim's life than he'd want for anyone, including the fact that Tim himself has a masked alter ego that sometimes wanders into the woods to tackle people at random. Her commitment to helping Alex seems to have extended to Tim and later even to Jay, and the latter is something that he'll never take lightly; Jay needs all the help he can get.
If anyone had to know, at least it's someone he might be able to trust.

Seventeen seconds and I'm over it
Ready for the disconnect
Putting on a brave face
Trying not to listen
To the voices in the back of my head
But it's all right now
(It's a distant memory baby)
All right now
(You know you should just let it go)
Some feelings have a habit of persisting
Even though you wouldn't let it show
Wearing me out, all this
Hanging around, it just starts
Getting me down 'till I'm just
Looking for an easy way out
Brain-dead from boredom
I'm led to distraction
Scratching the surface of life
Nothing really happens
But it's easy to keep busy
When you tell yourself you're traveling right
Keep on second-guessing
Use my memory like a weapon
On everything I try
There's a sense of camaraderie there that makes Sans easy to talk to. Tim suspects that he's been gradually downward-spiraling over the course of several months since the disappearance of his brother, but he does a good job masking it behind that easy, weary, unshakable grin of his.
Tim's offered an ear, but somehow he doubts that Sans will take him up on that without some prompting. But that's fine; that's his right to it.

So never say it's unfair,
That confidence is not there
For everything I've known
Is everything I've sown
Father give me freedom,
Providence and wisdom
For when I am alone,
When I am alone
I guess you caught me dreaming
Though all of your deceiving
Was water to my soul,
Underneath it all
I've never really known how
All of this would work out
With nowhere left to go
Nowhere left to go
So where, am I meant to wander now?
If you were there then you've left without a sound
And I was lost I'm not sure I was ever found
By you
He doesn't know much about the horror that's plagued Tim's life. If Tim has any mercy in his soul, he'll keep it that way.
He fully intends to.

I forgot
Everything
From the first thought
To the last dreams
When its so wrong
And you cant breathe
It's the thoughts inside
That will change you
Just say no
Never let it go
You cant run from yourself
That's all that you know
And time's ticking away
The light will slowly fade
And we will fall through the changes
Just say yes
A leap of faith, I guess
We are the ones
Who were chased until the final breath
And life's ticking away
The light will slowly fade
And we will fall through the changes
It isn't her fault, though he doubts she believes that herself. He just knows that she doesn't deserve to endure what his own world is capable of, and he'll do whatever he can to ensure that she never has to again.

We're up all night dreaming
We aren't alive as long as there's a prison guard still breathing
So we're up all night scheming
We don't get tired, we get even
I can't sleep anyway
Wolves haunt my living room
And keep me up all night howling at the moon
I'd still be on the outside
Of the world we dream of building
But that could never change
Any four walls are a prison to me
We might ride together until we reach freedom
We might ride 'till we reach justice
Then I'll get out alone
And walk 'till all the world is dust
I'll still be on the outside
Of the community we're building
But that could never change
Any society is prison to me
Now it's just a question of damage control - of ensuring that Seth doesn't get hung up on It and get trapped thinking about It. If there's any risk of It bleeding through into Wonderland, it's one he'll have to prevent. One way or another.

I asked Saint Christopher
To find your sister
And she ran out in the woods
And she ran out in the woods
Oh, it was certain then
And we were trying to stop the winter
Killing all it could
Killing all it could
We are what we are
Don't need no excuses
For the scars
From our mothers
And we know what we know
'Cause we're made of all the little bones
Of our fathers
And I pray a lot for you
And I look out for you
And I pray a lot for you
And I look out for you
I asked Saint Christopher
To find your sister
She ran out in the woods
'Cause she ran out in the woods
She's a good kid; one that deserves way more than she's gotten, least of all from Tim. He can't exactly repay her, but he can try to be less of a burden in the future. For whatever good that does.

We see the shadows that are falling from your eyes
Draining your face of everything but the disguise
Don't hide baby, let them see your true colours
Don't mind the camera, let them see your black heart tonight
Don't hide baby, show them just how deep it goes
Don't mind the cameras, let them see your black heart, baby
You've been perfect from the start
They told me that time has only done you wrong
We are going to a different place
We're taking everything we can
There's no expression left upon our face
'Cause time is running out so fast
We're sinking in the sand
You've been talking from the heart
Saying that I can't be away from life
We are going to a different place
We're taking everything we can
There's no expression left upon our face
'Cause time is running out so fast
We're sinking in the sand
His primary concern now is in keeping his Mirror away from Jay, who he knows is far more susceptible to that kind of exploitation - particularly now.
